POLOPUESTO represents the Argentinean winemaking venture of Pol Andsnes, a wandering spirit in the world of wine. With a background of crafting wines in Croatia, France, Spain, Chile, Uruguay and Argentina, this project began to take shape in 2012 during Pol's tenure at a winery in Mendoza. The catalyst for POLOPUESTO was Pol's encounter with forgotten local grape varieties tucked away in seldom-visited ancient vineyards, overshadowed by vast, industrialized wine farms dominated by popular varieties like Syrah, Malbec, Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay.
Diverging from the prevalent industrialized methods, POLOPUESTO distinguishes itself with unique, elegant wines crafted manually – from harvesting to pressing. Rejecting additives, Pol allows spontaneous fermentation, avoiding filtration or clarification - a totally unconventional approach for the region at that time. A gentle touch of oak from aged barrels adds character, while sulfur is sparingly used, preserving the authenticity of grape varieties and terroir. POLOPUESTO encapsulates Pol Andsnes' commitment to authentic, untamed wines that defy conventions and celebrate the beauty of forgotten grape varieties and techniques: making wines of Bonarda, Criolla’s, long-macerated Torrontés, Malbec co-fermented with Sémillon.
