La Preara

Veneto Italy

La Preara, situated in the hills of Monteforte d’Alpone in Verona, is a family-run farm managed by Andrea Prà. The winery's roots trace back to the late 1940s when their grandfather, Stefano, started producing wine to support his family during difficult times, initially selling to neighbors and friends.

Over the years, the winery evolved, with Andrea’s father shifting towards selling bulk wine between the 1980s and early 2000s. However, in 2019, Andrea and his siter Monica, now adults, decided to revive their grandfather's legacy by returning to the production of bottled wine.

Today, La Preara boasts 20 hectares of organically farmed land, although not certified, with three hectares dedicated to Corvina and 17 to Garganega. Andrea's winemaking philosophy mirrors that of his grandfather, emphasizing minimal intervention and spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts.

Their wines, housed in transparent bottles that showcase their enchanting colors, are a testament to tradition and terroir. From sparkling wines to white, orange, and red, each bottle tells a story of dedication to craftsmanship and respect for the land.

In the vineyard, Andrea meticulously tends to the vines using organic methods, refusing usage of pesticides and weedkillers. Vinification occurs naturally, with light pressings, spontaneous fermentations, and minimal use of sulfur dioxide. The wines mature in cement barrels, preserving their purity and character, before being bottled without filtration.

La Preara's offerings, including sparkling wines refermented in the bottle and classic method sparkling wines, exemplify the richness and diversity of the Veneto region. With each sip, wine enthusiasts are invited to savor the essence of Monteforte d’Alpone—a true corner of paradise encapsulated in every bottle.

Andrea’s sister Monica with her husband now run the guesthouse Agriturismo la Preara on top of the old winery, with the great cuisine on site.
