Cuvée Alchémille 2021

Domaine Dame Jeanne

100% Chardonnay, directly pressed, aged 1 year on lees in amfora's.

Recognisable Burgundy Chardonnay character (but without unnecessary oiliness and heavy vanilla power coming from heavy barrels), very elegant, with great minerality and sharp acidity.

Domaine Dame Jeanne

Burgundy France

Jeanne Piollot works in the southern edge of Champagne in the Aube, a region closer to Burgundy than to the more renowned areas of Champagne. Raised in a family deeply rooted in winemaking, Jeanne's parents operate two successful separate Champagne estates: Piollot Père et Fille and Marie Courtin. Inspired by her familial legacy, Jeanne ventured into winemaking herself, establishing her own label, Dame Jeanne.

Faced with the soaring prices of Champagne vineyards, Jeanne and her family made a strategic decision to purchase a small domaine in Molesme, just across the border into Burgundy. Here, they grow Pinot Noir, Gamay, and Chardonnay on red marl soil, adhering strictly to organic farming practices.

Dame Jeanne, which translates to "Lady Jeanne" in French, is a nod to both regal elegance and to the traditional glass jars used for storing wines since the Middle Ages. In Molesme, Jeanne and her partner Gennaro de Miccoli employ minimal intervention in both the vineyard and the cellar, crafting wines that straddle the line between Chablis and Champagne.

While technically outside the Champagne AOC, Jeanne's wines exhibit a distinctive character influenced by her family's Champagne-making heritage. Her wines are characterised by sharp minerality, elegant structure, and balanced flavours, reflecting the unique terroir of the Aube region. With a focus on organic farming and delicate cellar work, Jeanne Piollot is carving out her own path in the world of winemaking, offering exciting new additions from this often overlooked corner nestled between two renowned regions.
