Rojac
Istria Slovenia
The Rojac family has been rooted in Gažon since the 17th century, deeply ingrained in viticulture and olive cultivation. Upholding a thousand-year-old tradition, successive generations have preserved and perpetuated vineyard cultivation in the hilly expanse of Slovenian Istria.
Transitioning towards producing the finest quality wines has been the family's recent challenge. Restructuring vineyards demanded conviction, planning, and technical acumen. Over 80,000 grapevines now flourish on elevated, south-facing slopes, predominantly terraced, with a density averaging 7,000 vines per hectare.
Rojac wines epitomize dense aromas and full-bodied flavors, mirroring the essence of Slovenian history and Istrian terroir. The family's winemaking philosophy melds ancestral practices with modern oenology, resulting in wines that are true to nature, undergoing minimal intervention while meticulously monitoring maturation.
Istria's tumultuous history has shaped its resilient and hospitable people, qualities mirrored in Rojac wines. Slovenian Istria's warm climate, characterized by abundant solar radiation, presents an ideal environment for cultivating white and red grape varieties.
The region's Eocene flysch soil, rich in marine sediments, contributes to the wine's mineral structure. Rojac vineyards, situated near Gažon, cascade from 240 to 120 meters above sea level along terraced slopes. Strategic spraying and prudent vineyard management ensure organic grape production and uniform ripening.
In the cellar, Rojac Winery prioritises wine's intrinsic qualities, focusing on structure and richness. Through meticulous maceration and native yeasts, their wines acquire a distinctive regional identity. Unfiltered and aged in-bottle, Rojac wines embody the unconventional character synonymous with the brand.
