Clos Kixhaya
The town of Chinon rests serenely along the banks of the River Vienne in Indre-et-Loire. The vineyards of the Chinon AOC gracefully ascend the relatively steep banks of the Vienne, extending across the gentler slopes that stretch northward from the hills above Chinon to the Loire. These vineyards thrive predominantly on beds of erosional scree and gravels, overlaying the firm Turonian limestones. As one approaches the Loire, the Turonian limestones gradually yield to the ancient Jurassic rock of the Loire., Loire France
Beatriz Papamija produces amazing wines within the AOC Chinon Rouge from 4 hectares of family-owned, old Cabernet Franc vines (55-90 years old). She and her husband, Étienne Le Blanc, took over the vineyard in 2018. The couple, along with their three children, live in a tiny house while preparing to renovate the abandoned mansion and the winery on the estate.
The vineyard is situated directly in front of the estate.
Their life is an honest, humble, rustic one with a profound connection to nature, filled with endless hard labor. They use biodynamic practices in the vineyard and follow a no-intervention approach in the winery, meaning nothing is added or removed from the wine. All processes, including gentle destemming, are carried out manually. The wines are aged partly in concrete tanks, partly in old oak barrels, and amphorae.
