Stemberger

all the residual from the barrels after pressing of white wines of both wineries - mixed left to gravity in one tank

Wine of hazy deep amber appearance. With a pleasant volatile acidity touch, revealing hints of orange peel, sour yellow plums, dried apple and nuances of cane sugar, tea, dough. On the palate the wine is dry with a medium body. Tangy, mouthwatering acidity gives lift and spine while balancing with supple tannins and succulent flavors of tart- plums, blood orange, green apple, lime and apricot, with a fairly lengthy spicy finish.

Stemberger

Karst, Karst Slovenia

Stemberger Winery is nestled in Slovenia’s Karst region, across prime locations in Štajerska and Primorska, and its vineyards benefit from diverse microclimates and mineral-rich soils, fostering exceptional grape cultivation. Embracing organic and biodynamic principles, sustainability takes precedence in its operations.

The winemaking ethos of Stemberger revolves around traditional methods and minimal cellar intervention. Techniques like hand-harvesting, spontaneous fermentation, and extended oak aging define their approach, resulting in a portfolio of elegant white and amber wines from indigenous grapes like Zelen, Rebula, Vitovska, Malvazija, as well as expressive reds like Teran and Merlot.

Hospitality reigns supreme at Stemberger, offering immersive tastings and tours to visitors, providing insight into their winemaking philosophy and practices. Their dedication to quality and community underscores their significance in Slovenia's winemaking landscape.

Sebastijan Stemberger, the heart and soul behind the winery, embodies warmth, generosity, and a deep connection to his surroundings. His winemaking journey is a blend of Karst tradition and Jura inspiration, resulting in wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. Sebastijan's vineyards, located in two parts of the Karst wine region, benefit from limestone-rich soils and a cool climate. In the cellar, Sebastijan adopts a natural approach, allowing the wines to evolve with minimal intervention (since 2017 the wines don’t receive any additives whatsoever). The wines are aged in oak or acacia wooden vats - classic barrels and huge conical wooden vats.

Stemberger wines, characterized by skin maceration and extended barrel aging, boast a distinctive personality marked by strength, ripeness, and finesse. From elegant whites to robust reds, each bottle tells a story of meticulous craftsmanship and reverence for the land.

With a rich history dating back centuries, the Å temberger family has been integral to the winemaking legacy of the Karst plateau. Their vineyards, spanning Å epulje and Å tanjel, epitomize sustainable viticulture practices, yielding grapes of exceptional quality. In the cellar, a gentle approach ensures that the wines mature gracefully, preserving their innate character and charm.

From the vineyard to the bottle, Sebastijan Stemberger serves as a steadfast guide, nurturing the grapes with care and respect, resulting in wines that encapsulate the essence of the Karst region.
